Apr.2000

The Korean war KIA recovery project was activated
as a part of the commemorative Project for
"the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War"
* Temporary project by ROKA HQ task force

Jun.2005

The project was perpetuated and reinforced

Jan. 2007

The Project was transferred from ROKA HQ to MND
(Activation of MAKRI)
* The South Korean government laid
a groundwork for the project to take off

Mar.2008

Enacted the “Korean War KIA Remains Recovery Act”
(Act No. 8924)
* Legal basis for perpetuation of the Program in the national level

Jan.2009

The headquarter of the ROK MAKRI was built
in the Seoul National Cemetery
* Central Identification Laboratory with professional equipments

Mar.2009

Established a supportive mechanism with the South Korean government
(Prime Minister Order No. 535)
* Organized a consulting group for government-related offices and designated specific tasks

Dec.2010

Developed the KIA Total Information System (KIATIS)
* Laid a foundation for acceleration of the project

Aug.2011

Signed the MOU and SOP regarding the ROK-US cooperation for KIA recovery with US JPAC

Feb.2012

Held a Joint Symposium for the ROK-US KIA Identification
* Atlanta, US (200 personnel from 11 countries participated)

Jul.2012

Dispatched a MIA identification support team to Libya

May.2013

Designated the Program as one
of the State Affairs at the Cabinet Council

Mar. 2014~Mar. 2015

Repatriated 505 Chinese remains to China

Sep.2015

Concluded the meeting minutes with Vietnam in regards
to the recovery of MIA remains during the Vietnam War

Signed the MOA with the US in regards
to cooperation for the KIA recovery

Reorganized MAKRI (Integrated Planning Branch & Support Branch
to Planning Operating Branch, Newly established External
Affairs Branch)
